Drop Down Question
The drop down question type is a multiple choice question that allows the respondent to choose only one option from a list of scrollable answers.
They are suitable for mobile forms with a large number of options and present an uncluttered user interface to the respondent.
The respondent taps the drop down menu to display a list of options. They can then scroll through the entire list and tap one answer to select it.
Powerful Keyword Search Form
Instead of scrolling through a long list, a respondent can use the powerful keyword search form to quickly filter the list of options and then select an answer. The keyword search algorithm matches keywords anywhere within the answer text and supports up to 10,000 answers within the drop down menu list.
For usability we recommend that list items are displayed with concise text to make it easier for respondents to quickly identify the option they are looking for.
Sort Order
Simply copy and paste the drop option list into the survey designer when you set up your survey. Ensure each list item is on a separate line. The drop down option list will be displayed in the order that each item were pasted into the drop down question type. Sort your options into an appropriate order that will be easy for respondents to search. For example a USA State list would be best sorted alphabetically whereas a list containing the Days of the week is easier to search when sorted "Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday ... etc"
The iSURVEY app makes it easy to collect data even when your iPad or Android tablet device is offline. Simply sync the data when your mobile device has an Internet connection.
Drop Down Menu vs Single Select
When is a drop down question type not suitable in a mobile form?
If a multiple choice question has less than 7 options we recommend using a single select question type.
Example Dropdown Questions
- Which airline did you travel on today?
- Select the name of the store you are inspecting
- Which newspaper do you read most frequently?
- What is your country of residence?
